For doing so you get a cash reward and a crafting recipe. (It is possible to get this crafting recipe from another "special order" as well.) That box is where you deposit the crops. If I remember correctly, the seeds actually cost more (sans sunflower seeds) until you buy the member ship, which makes it the same. So, Pierre's is actually better IMO. And they're evil.
